In 1980, Ted Kennedy took on incumbent president Jimmy Carter in the primary. My take, though, is that while Kennedy really didn’t want to run for president, he didn’t have any choice, given the fact that he was the last of his line and his two brothers before him had both run. They had both also paid with their lives. Another thing that people suspect might have spurred Kennedy was Carter’s failure to embrace universal health care. Regardless, it seemed like a half-hearted effort at the beginning.
The end, however, was a rush for Ted Kennedy, who found his momentum and his calling to be a great Senator. Read on.

A long time friend had Mary Jo’s mother working for him when her daughter’s drowning occurred at Ted Kennedy’s hands. He swears her mother came to him saying she didn’t have to work any longer having been paid off for her daughter’s death.
